Rundle Park, Geese, and Rude Ducks.
Hello again! For this late blog post, I’ll be talking about the images I was able to take at Rundle Park Edmonton, AB, Canada. I took a trip to the little park back in late March to find some wildlife to take photos of for my portfolio. My main goal was to capture geese, ducks, and maybe some smaller critters like squirrels if I can find them. We got there around 7 pm just before the sun went down so we were able to get some pretty evening light. I brought my new Tamron 70-200mm F/2.8 so I can get that nice bokeh while staying further away from the animals. I didn’t want to disturb what they were up to, so I got low to the ground and stayed as quiet as I could.

Luckily I was able to find a small squirrel munching on a pinecone shortly after. I snuck up to him and was able to get some vertical shots of the little guy, the pine trees he was surrounded by gave a very nice bokeh background that makes the final image really dreamy-like. You have to be super quiet when taking images of smaller animals since they could get spooked by the shutter more easily. Silent shooting mode is also a great choice when shooting animals. I like to get eye level with the wildlife as well so I can get the angle from their point of view. For Geese since they were walking on the ground, I knelt down and got to their level, and placed myself close to objects so they wouldn't notice me as much. Thankfully I didn’t get chased by any so I’m happy.

After taking photos of the geese we decided to walk around the park a bit more just to see if we could find any other animals. Walking to the other side of the park we found a couple of ducks strolling along together. I ran since I saw them in the distance and didn’t want to miss them. Unfortunately, the ducks wanted nothing to do with my photography so they only showed their backs and waddled away from me whenever I got slightly close. I was originally going to hide behind some trees and sneak up behind them, but by the time I got to the trees, they were already moved further away from me. Ducks are pretty smart when it comes to not wanting their photo taken. The images I got of them didn’t really turn out so I only have one final image to show from them.
